“Success to the Fleece” Wall Plaque. Att. Moore & Co, c.1850 SOLD

A unusually decorated and attractive wall plaque with blue enamel and deep pink splash lustre border.

An uncommon transfer with the verse:

“Success to the fleece,

To the Plough and the Sail,

May our Taxes Grow Less,

And our Commerce neer Fail”

This transfer has been seen on much earlier creamware pieces which would help to attribute unmarked pieces.

Nicely enamelled, good, clean transfer, body quite heavy. To the rear of the plaque can be seen where the blue enamel has been splashed on the body during manufacture. There is evidence of a fine crazed glaze imperfection running up from the edge. This is on the surface only and does not penetrate the body.

An attractive and rare wall plaque, attributed to Samuel Moore & Co, Southwick, c.1850.

Dimensions: 9¼ inches x 8¼ inches (23.5 cms x 21 cms)

Stock no: g/4696

Price: £SOLD
