Masonic Wall Plaque att. John Carr, North Shields c.1870 £SOLD

A superbly decorated wall plaque, shape,enamel and lustre  decoration typical to John Carr, Low Lights Pottery, north shields, c.1870. This transfer is rarely seen on this shape from Carr’s pottery.

This is from my own personal collection.

This transfer was originally used on Dixon & Co’s pieces, prior to their closure in 1865, whereupon John Carr purchased the copper plates used by the Sunderland” Garrison” Pottery.

The transfer shows a view of King Solomon’s Temple along with other Masonic  signs and symbols.

The verse taken from The Entered Apprentice Song reads:

“The World is in pain,

our secrets to gain,

but still let them wonder and gaze on;

They ne’re can divine,

The word nor the sign,

of a free and Accepted Mason”

The plaque measures 9½ inces x 8½ inches (24cms x 22 cms) approx.

Condition: There is a chip to the bottom left hand side. Th rest of the plaque is superbly lustred and enamelled.

Price: £SOLD
