John Carr & Sons Lustre Bowl. Stag’s Head Mark, c.1865 SOLD

An orange lustre decorated bowl with various transfers including “Gardener’s Arms”, “The Mariners’ Compass”, “Blind Man’s buff” and various verses.

“Love not sleep lest thou come to poverty”;”He that refuseth instruction despiseth his own soul”; “Thou noble bark of brightest fame…”

Typical “ox-bow” shape lustre decoration. All the interior transfers are enamel decorated.

In superb condition. Impressed “stag’s head” mark to the base: “John Carr & Sons” surrounding a fouled anchor.

John Carr & Sons, Northumberland Pottery, Low Lights, North Shields c.1860. This mark was used between 1861-1896.

10¾ inches daimeter; 4 inches tall (27.4 cms x 10 cms approx)
